Install David trial on UbuntuGnome 14.04

I have GnomeUbuntu 14.04 and the pre-installed screen reader works, along with it's harsh voice.
I downloaded the David trial voice and ran the installer.sh as directed.
The installer seems to work fine; I chose the default /opt/swift directory.
Cepstral's site says their voices integrate with Gnome, but I can't find any instructions. I've found various posts but they are either very old or are not explained well, and some contradict others. For example, I found a post that says you need to install the gnome-speech-swift package, and another that says you do not need to install it.
I did install gnome-speech-swift through apt-get and rebooted. But when I open the screen reader preferences, I do not see any option to switch to David or to the Swift engine.
Could someone point me to some well-maintained instructions? Why isn't Cepstral's support site more helpful in this regard?
Thanks for your help.
