umlauts on cepstral kathrin-8khz 5.1 on linux (64bit)

the online demo of Kathrin-8Khz works with umlauts. My local installation of cepstral 5.1 with kathrin-8khz does only spelll words with umlauts. Same problem with mod_cepstral (freeswitch) or from cli.
is it supposed to work with umlauts?
