How to build lexicon?

Is there a tutorial available on how to build lexicon entries? I am looking for English / Language specific rules.

E.g. Why Nature is written as
n ey1 [ch] er0

What are the rules for brackets, ones, zeros and spaces?

The user lexicon uses no brackets. Syllable stress always goes on the vowel within the syllable. That really is all the rules we have, since we don't support secondary stress and that sort of fancy features in the user lexicon.
