Linux Installation Help

I Installed the voice emily on gnome Ubuntu 10.04. I'm super green on linux, but I was able to get the voice installed through the terminal. I was able to test it once, however now I can't seem to figure out what I did to get it to speak to me.

My goal is to get it so it can be used in firefox. Can anybody guide me through this?

I was able to type at the terminal prompt swift "hello world" after reboot and got a reply. So I know the voice works, i just don't know how to get it to work in firefox.

There is no built-in support for speech synthesis in Linux. The nearest you can get is to install Orca (a screen reader) with the gnome-speech and open source cepstral drivers. Then you'll have a general screen reader.

I just want a voice synthesizer not a screen reader. Is there a way I can bind emily to espeak?

Along with the voices you get the swift command line which read to audio as well as saves wave files. Espeak could be edited to replace the speech command within with swift.
